Housed in the Farah Professional Center on the west side of Ann Arbor, Imagine Fitness & Yoga empowers every individual to “Start Living the Life You Always Imagined.”
Intimate, welcoming, flexible and supportive, owners John and Jackie Farah, longtime members of the Ann Arbor Track Club, have created an atmosphere within their studio that generates camaraderie and accommodates individuals of every age and fitness level.
“I saw people roll in and out of the gyms I used to belong to without ever knowing their names or having a conversation,” John lamented. “I’m a people person; I like knowing people…” thus Farah’s inspiration to create such a personable health and fitness center.
Nearly three years later, Imagine Fitness & Yoga continues to thrive and change lives by responding to its community’s needs and desires.
“We continue to add classes and equipment based on what people are looking for, and all of our instructors are skilled at recognizing newcomers and anyone who might need additional attention,” Jackie explained.
Client success stories range from glowing cardiology reports of post heart bypass surgery patients to accomplished runners yielding even faster running performances.
Anne Maier, an Inspire member from the very beginning, June 2015, values the cross-training opportunities to complement her running.
“I truly believe participating in classes at Imagine has helped me remain injury free,” Maier attests.
Likewise, veteran runner and AATC member, Eduardo Matsuo, swears by circuit classes with ‘Maggie’ experiencing firsthand the benefits of working different muscles in fun, creative ways while improving balance and stability; attributes which benefit his preparation for the 45th Dexter- Ann Arbor race, June 3, 2018.
“This will be my twelfth Dexter-Ann Arbor half marathon in addition to ten Dexter-Ann Arbor 10Ks,” Matsuo proudly shares.
The significance of the 45th running of the event along with the 50th anniversary of the AATC itself is not lost on the Farahs.
“A great sense of community is created through the race organized by the Club; they bind people together,” Jackie acknowledges and adds, “This is the same thing we try to do in our studio.”
Try and succeed; one only has to walk through the doors to experience the warmth received first in the reception area followed by the friendly smiles and greetings of Imagine ‘regulars’ and teachers while navigating the cozy layout complete with the latest gym equipment kept in pristine condition; cycle and yoga studios, the latter which includes a heated floor; a deck used often by instructors in the warmer weather; and a lounge with cushy couches, healthy snacks and friendly banter.
Such affection is equally extended to client membership packages as it is the Farah’s priority “to make something work for every client.”
And special for the upcoming racing season, AATC members are being offered a special package, ten classes for $100, through the end of August.
Imagine plays home to a wide range of individuals, but runners will likely recognize friendly faces seen often at races including, AATC board member, Nelson Williams, and trumpet playing icon, Jeff Barnett, both highly sought Imagine instructors.
Though many have likely experienced gym atmospheres that do not deem a second visit, Imagine beckons your return over and over again and provides supportive inspiration to bring goals “out of the imagination stage.”
